Overview

Who doesn’t love a pie and a pint and as for peculiar pubs... well London has them in spades!

WHAT'S THIS ALL ABOUT?
On this guided walk, you will be exploring the history of the pub. The route weaves through Clerkenwell and Farringdon, as you listen to the stories and history behind London’s pub along with a couple of pints along the way. Where could you find the last beer before a Newgate execution? Why are ghosts and spirits kept at bay in one particular (and very cosy) bar.

Discover the reason why some pubs are hidden away in certain parts of London. Without our traditional pints the city probably wouldn’t have survived, as back in the day Londoner’s were drinking it in place of water, and don’t let’s get started on the joys of a pie. When an oyster was as cheap as a chip, the Victorians were stuffing them under crusts, with a drop of stout to improve the gravy. Yes, we understand a pie. The crust is just a vehicle for holding in deliciousness. The tour consists of up to eight, and heads off from the Viaduct Tavern in Newgate Street, and there will be a maximum of eight people in your group. The totter lasts for about three hours, and at the end of the walk you will sit down for a pint and a pie - a well-deserved treat, and take the time to raise your glass to the very peculiar British pub.

You'll enjoy:
A pint of beer or similar on arrival
A pint (or similar en route)
A pint and a pie in a pub at the end of the tour

Vegetarian options are available.
